BASINGSTOKE’S Alan Shearer Sam Argent enjoyed a dream return in a Basingstoke Town shirt, as he scored twice in their 3-1 home victory over visiting Banbury United last Saturday.
The prolific scorer with Hartley Wintney took just five minutes to open his account.
The striker then made sure of the win his second of the game in added on time after Smart had played him in.
A delighted Argent said: “I don’t think my return could have gone any better. I gambled on the first goal that something would happen and Sam (Smart) gave me a great pass for the second.
“I had a great time at Hartley and I will always look out for their results. I will always back myself to get goals and think we can definitely push for the play-offs.”
In Saturday’s game against Banbury, Argent gave Town the lead, the visitors levelled by half-time from Tom Winters.
After the break, Town's Shane Hollamby hit the post, and then a low cross from Smart saw sub Ashleigh Artwell slot home on 76 minutes.
Then in added on time Argent grazed the top of the crossbar, before the same player made the game safe in front of the biggest crowd of the season 486.
After three straight wins, this Saturday, Town travel to Bishop’s Stortford.
Manager Terry Brown has a full squad to pick from and said: "They are a young side like us, so both sides will be going for the win. So it should be a good game."
