HOOK’S British Touring Car driver Rob Collard has been forced to withdraw from today’s final meeting at Brands Hatch.
Collard was involved in a high-speed accident at the previous round at Silverstone. He took part in free practice yesterday, after a heroic effort by the West Surrey Racing team to build-up a new car around a spare chassis.
Unfortunately, following second practice, the Hook driver was forced to withdraw from the remainder of the event on medical advice.
Collard said: “I’ve been a championship challenger for most of the season, so It’s a massive shame not to be able to finish it.
“I’ve recovered well since the accident at Silverstone, passed the concussion test I took here yesterday and felt fine driving in free practice.
“I started to feel dizzy when I got out of the car so I went for a check-up with the BTCC Medical Team who, unfortunately, have advised me not to drive.”
He added: I’ll be here today supporting Colin Turkington and the team as best as I can as they aim for the championship.”
The West Surrey Racing team lead both the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ Championships with just today’s three races to go.
