Hampshire lost the chance to win the county’s first silverware of the season at Arundel Castle.

Brad Wheal took 2-23 but Chris Sole (4-0-34-1), Ian Holland (3-0-28-1) and Matt Salisbury (4-0-33-1) were the only other bowlers to take wickets as Sussex set a daunting target.

Harry Finch top scored with 54 (46 balls), opener Luke Wells made a 14-ball 28 and left-hander Delray Rawlins blasted a 24-ball 40, including three sixes, after Sussex won the toss.

In reply, Jimmy Adams (20 from 11 balls) and Ian Holland (14) were out in successive balls during a (45-4) powerplay bookended by the dismissals of Fraser Hay (4) and Felix Organ (one) .

Will Smith made a run-a-ball 31 before he was bowled by slow left-armer Rawlins, with 67 needed from the last 33 balls Hampshire finished well short despite Jake Lintott’s 15-ball 29, which included three sixes.

Medium-pacer Abi Sakande (4-0-26-3) was the pick of the Sussex attack.

Earlier, Hampshire won their semi-final against Yorkshire by nine wickets - with 8.2 overs to spare.

Wheal (3.2-0-12-2)was the pick of the attack as Yorkshire were bowled out for 100.

Salisbury (4-0-22-2) also bowled well before Adams led Hampshire to their target with an unbeaten 57 (38 balls; five fours, two sixes) after an opening stand of 62 with Hay (26).
