BASINGSTOKE and North Hants moved up to second place, keeping the pressure on Southern League Division One leaders Calmore Sports after a 20-run win at Bournemouth.

The home side started the day in second, with the Bountymen third and the home side having won the toss took to field.

Basingstoke suffered the early loss of Dan Belcher with 11 scored, but Max Harsham (28) and Chris Froud (18) moved the score past 50, before both became victims of Jeremy Warner (3-26).

Mitch Stokes (49) from 53 balls and Will Phillips (40) then added 77 for the fourth wicket, but after this the only other players to get into double figures were Richard Vinn (19 not out) and Chris Jolley (10) which included the only six of the innings, as Basingstoke ended up on 196-9.

Some tight bowling then restricted the home side to 176-9, as Martyn James returned 1-23 off 10 overs, David Griffiths 1-18 off eight overs and Ash Neal 0-17 from seven.

Jake Hurley top scored for Bournemouth with 33 and Martin Miller made 30, while the last pair added 19 runs.

Stokes and Phillips both took two wickets each for the Bountymen, while there were also two run outs.

This coming weekend, Basingstoke are at home to Portsmouth.
