HARTLEY Wintney completed their first Southern League Division Two double of the season, as they won at Hambledon by four wickets.

The home side won the toss and elected to bat, with the visiting bowlers keeping things tight from the start.

Will Bond was the first man out caught and bowled by James Beckwith and then George Marshall (19) and Indy Chakrabarti (34) helped the score to 53, before Marshall was out.

From here Hambledon slipped to 57-4, before Chakrabarti and Henry Glanfield (19) recovered things moving the score into three figures.

Star Hartley bowler Dan Reynaldo (4-28) then removed both, before trapping Owain Chapman leg before and bowling Rhidian Chapman both for ducks leaving the home side on 118-8.

Mark Watkiss with an unbeaten 24 scored valuable late runs, but ran out of partners as the home side were bowled out for 153.

Hartley’s reply did not get off to the best of starts as opener Will Kerr (9) departed with 13 on the board.

Captain Danny Plume (15) and top scorer Henry Collier (79) then added 30 for the second wicket, before Plume became the second of four victims for Rhidian Chapman.

Chapman then bowled Danny Flanders and James Beckwith both for ducks making it 53-4.

Jamie Teale (11) and Collier moved the score to 68, before Teale was stumped giving George Harding his first of two wickets, his second being Rhys Batcup without scoring.

At this point, with Hartley 68-6, Hambledon looked set for victory, but thanks to Collier’s superb 79 which included nine fours and one six and Ben Hyde (35), which saw him hit six boundaries, they steered to victory with an unbroken stand of 87 runs.

The win keeps Hartley’s promotion hopes alive and next weekend they are at home to Trojans.
