HARTLEY Wintney have their biggest game of the season so far on Saturday, when they take on visiting Southern League Division Two leaders Totton and Eling.

The south Hampshire table toppers have made the perfect start to the season with five straight wins and will travel to the north of the county, to face a side also in good form.

Hartley moved right into the promotion shake-up last weekend, as they maintained their 100 per cent away record, with a great 84 run victory at Trojans.

This moved the village side to third in table, behind Sparsholt and leaders Totton who currently occupy two promotion spots.

Hartley skipper Danny Plume said: “We are playing well at the moment having won our last two and this is certainly a big game for this weekend.”

The captain is available for the game, but Scott Baldwin and James Beckwith return to the line-up to face the leaders.

Last Saturday at Trojans, Hartley were put into bat and Will Kerr (107) and Henry Collier (35) put on 110 for the first wicket Kerr carried on his fine form from the previous week when he scored 68, hitting 12 fours and one six in his excellent ton.

Collier cleared the boundary rope three times to go with two fours.

After this the middle order failed to fire, but then Will Ross (29) and Batcup (24) added 53 for the seventh wicket helped Hartley to 253.

The home side’s reply got off to a bad start, as Rhys Batcup trapped opener Edward Boyd first ball.

Mahmood Ul Hassan (60) threatened to take the game away from the visitors, but Dan Reynaldo (3-21) ripped out the middle order as the home side found themselves 107-5.

Mark Teale (3-24) then had Hassan trapped leg before and along with skipper Plume (2-15) they wiped out the tail, as the last five wickets added just 40 runs with Trojans all out for 169.

Plume said: “Will Kerr scores so quickly, so his ton took the game away from them and we bowled really well as they gave up the chase.”
