The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) is revving up to race into the fastest circuit in the country next weekend (6/7 May), as Thruxton in Hampshire prepares to play host to the UK’s premier motorsport series.

The BTCC is a family-friendly show that never fails to entertain, with dramatic doorhandle-to-doorhandle action from lights-out to chequered flag. Better still, Thruxton’s flat-out sweepers invariably generate spectacular slipstreaming scraps as Britain’s leading racers vie for glory at eye-watering speeds of up to 160mph.

Setting the pace after the opening two events of 2017 is independent ace Tom Ingram in his Toyota, following a brace of early-season triumphs. The 23-year-old is hotly pursued by a gaggle of manufacturer-backed rivals, including two-time champion Colin Turkington (BMW), defending title-holder Gordon Shedden (Honda) and local favourite Rob Collard (BMW).

Indeed, more than half the drivers on the grid have previously won races in the BTCC and more still are capable of spraying victory champagne at Thruxton, making for a mouth-wateringly unpredictable weekend in prospect. The tin-top heroes will be joined by support series stars from the Renault UK Clio Cup, thrill-a-minute Ginetta Junior Championship, F4 British Championship and Ginetta GT5 Challenge.
