THE next Family Chess morning event will be held at the Discovery Centre/Library on Saturday from 10.30 am. Anyone who fancies a game or some instruction is very welcome to attend.

In other chess news, Basingstoke B travelled to Winchester B, where wins from Peter Beldaus and Adam Matthews, plus draws from Frank Bonsey and Alan Willis secured a 3-1 win.

This enabled the team to win the Southampton League Division Four on board count.

The Basingstoke A team were confirmed as runners-up in Division Three behind winners Winchester A.

In the Borders League Division Three, Basingstoke maintained their second place position following a 3-2 win in a very close match at Woking.

The Basingstoke points came from wins by David Graham, Barry Kocan and Ken Wyld.

Kempshott are the winners of the Basingstoke League following a 4 ½ to 3 ½ win over Basing.
