BASINGSTOKE Bluefins swimmers were in some exalted company when they competed recently at the Level One competition held at the Hengrove Sports Park’s Olympic size 50 metre pool in Bristol.

The meet over two days was a real treat for the spectators with Great Britain Olympians, Adam Willis and Siobhan O’Connor being in attendance at this high level competition.

It was also great to see that both of these elite swimmers were more than happy to mix and pose for photos with the young and aspiring athletes from all the clubs taking part.

The high level of competition in attendance did not phase the Bluefins swimmers, of which there were 17 in total.

There were no finals at the meet, so with only a heat swim available, all the swimmers had just one shot to do a good job in each race they were taking part in.

It was great to see no fewer than eleven of the Bluefins team attaining medal placings, and in total Bluefins swimmers came away from the meet with a very respectable medal tally of 37, with seven being golds.

Quick times also came thick and fast for the team, with over 60 of the 108 swims being swum in lifetime best times.

All in all some good results from one of the first big competitions that the swimmers are able to qualify in for the prestigious National Championships, which will be held in the summer, and a good stepping stone towards the South East Regional Championships which are on the horizon in May.
