BASINGSTOKE Hockey men's second team thrashed bottom of the league Andover 10-0 after leading 6-0 up at half time.

Hat-tricks were scored by Liam Harrison and Phil Stewart, with Andy Goddard (2), Jacques Lourens and Brian Dixon adding to the tally.

The ladies thirds played at Eastleigh and were unfortunate to not come home with a point.

Basingstoke started the game strongly and had several chances saved well by the Eastleigh goalkeeper, and Eastleigh scored from a break and a short corner to go into half time 2-0 up.

Basingstoke got a goal back early on in the second half when Jude Bird put a defence-splitting ball into the circle for Martha Bilsland to convert. Basingstoke equalised mid-way through the half, Ulrike Maier setting up Bilsland for her second goal.

The scoreline led to very open hockey for the remainder of the game, both teams looking for the win, but it was Eastleigh who succeeded with just 45 seconds to go through a two-on-one to take the three points.

The men’s first team lost 5-2 at Chichester. Basingstoke conceded early before levelling when Paul Dowers had a shot saved but converted the deflection high and wide past the Chichester goalkeeper.

Chichester piled on the pressure but goalkeeper Adam Smith and sweeper Andy Preston kept any attacks on goal at bay.

Dowers then turned provider when he drove into the circle, playing the advantage well off a Chichester foot and fed Todd Hutcheson to slot home. Chichester scored an equaliser just before half time when a penalty stroke was awarded for a deliberate foul in the circle.

In the second half, the visitors had several chances to regain the lead but couldn’t convert, before Chichester dispossessed the Basingstoke defence in the circle and scored. Basingstoke went to a kicking back with five minutes to go, looking for an equaliser, but the gamble did not pay off as Chichester scored twice to secure the points.

The men’s thirds lost 1-0 away at Southampton, but still remain clear at the top of the league by seven points.

The fourths also lost, 4-1 at home to Poole, the goal coming from Pete Wood.

The fifths were unfortunate not to draw away at Alton. The visitor's were 2-0 down at half time but started the second half by far the stronger team and soon got a goal back through Chris Jenkins.

Basingstoke continued to press and had a number of chances and short corners but the Alton goalkeeper kept them out for Alton to take the win.

The Vikings had a very good performance at home against second in the league Bournemouth and similar to the fifths were unfortunate to not get a draw.

The Vikings could not capitalise on the chances they had early on in the game and went into half time 2-0 down.

Bournemouth then scored again early in the second half before the Vikings started to play some good, free flowing hockey, with brothers Stefan and Thomas Bonser linking well, the pressure soon leading to a goal from Ross Cavalier who finished first time.

Cavalier then turned provider when his shot rebounded off the crossbar and fell to Paul Bonser to slot home.

On Sunday, Basingstoke hosted another brilliant mini’s tournament, with under eights and under 10’s teams coming from Fleet and Ewshot, Alton, Aldershot and Farnham and Yateley.

The Basingstoke teams played very well across the board and the coaches and volunteers could not be prouder.

The club had over 30 volunteers to make the day run smoothly helping to set up, umpire and run the day.
