THE popular Family Chess morning will be held at the Discovery Centre/Library this Saturday from 10am to 1pm.
All are welcome to pop in at any time and have a game.
In other chess news, Basingstoke recorded their first win of the new year; with success in a Borders League Division Three fixture at Guildford C.
Wins from David Graham, Barry Kocan and John Shaddick gave the Sherborne Road club a 3-2 win and moved them into the top half of the table.
In the Southampton League Division Three, Basingstoke A secured a 2½ - 2½ draw at Southampton University’s B team.
The visitor's points came from wins by Paul Boyd and John Shaddick plus a draw from Colin Knight. The point keeps the club in contention for a top two finish.
The club sustained a heavy 5-1 defeat at a highly graded Reading B team. Colin Knight scored the lone point with a good win.
Recent Basingstoke League results were as follows, Central 3.5 Kempshott 4.5, Junior Club 4 Basing 4.
The Chess Club meets every Wednesday from 7pm and details can be found on the website basingstokechessclub.co.uk New members are welcome from beginner to seasoned player.
