BASINGSTOKE Town avenge their League Cup defeat earlier in the season as they won in the league at Hayes and Yeading 3-2.

The victory sent the Dragons up to 13th in the Southern League Premier Division, and it now means they are 16 points clear of the drop zone.

The visitors welcomed back captain David Ray and midfielder Ashleigh Antwell to the starting line-up for the game.

Town started the better and took the lead after 14 minutes, as Marcus Schuster-Johnson scored.

Before Hayes had any chance of netting an equaliser, striker Aaron Jarvis added a second a minute later to make it 2-0.

The home side then hauled themselves back into the contest, as Connor Toomey scored with a great strike.

Hayes then levelled things before the break as their leading Mitchell Weiss, who netted a hat-trick the last time these sides met, headed in with five minutes left in the half.

After the break, the home side hit the bar, but the visitors were not to be denied their fourth away win in five games, as centre half Joe Gater scored just after the hour mark.

The Dragons will now hope to carry on this form into Saturday, when they face a visit from mid table Biggleswade Town.
