THE Basingstoke Bison failed to record a weekend double over the Hull Pirates, as they lost the road game 3-2, having won at home the previous night 7-1.

The game looked to be heading for overtime, with the scores tied at 2-2 with five minutes to go.

However, at this point the Herd had their goalie Tomas Hiadlovsky dismissed for the first time in his Bison career on a 5+game penalty for spearing.

So this gave the home side a powerplay until the end of the game.

Dan Weller-Evans took over in goal and kept the Pirates out for the start of the extra man advantage, but Andrej Themar managed to score the winner with four minutes left.

Earlier in the contest, Hull scored the only goal of the first 20 minutes from Lee Bonner.

The Bison levelled things on their first powerplay of the night, as Ciaran Long netted assisted by Tomas Karpov and man of the match Rene Jarolin.

The home side replied to take a 2-1 advantage at the second buzzer, as Josh Gent scored his second goal of the weekend against the Bison.

With eight minutes left, the visitors managed to beat Hull man of the match Vlastimil Lakosil again, thanks to their captain Aaron Connolly.

However, Hiadlovsky was then dismissed and Hull scored the winner as every game in the series was won by the home side.

On Wednesday night, the Bison travel to Guildford for their next game and Hiadlovsky will be in their line-up, as he only received a game penalty which unlike a match penalty does not mean their is an automatic suspension.

The Herd then return to home ice on Saturday, when the visitors are the Milton Keynes Lightning.
