BASINGSTOKE'S Paul Hogan has been knocked out of the BDO World Darts Championships after losing a thrilling encounter with Glen Durrant.

Hogan went agonisingly close to clinching the second-round match, stunning the world number one by steaming into a three set lead.

With just a double eight needed to claim a famous scalp, Hogan busted as his dart dropped below the wire on, hitting double 16.

Durrant, the Lakeside tournament favourite, recovered and took the next four sets with Hogan's match-winning miss still playing on the Basingstoke man's mind.

Hogan told BT Sport: "Glen didn't come out the blocks, I did. I'm just gutted to have lost that. I had chances - loads of chances."
