BASINGSTOKE Town manager Terry Brown hailed his side’s victory over Merthyr Town as their biggest win of the season so far.

The Dragons ended the Welsh side’s impressive 14 game unbeaten league run, which included a 4-0 drubbing for Town in Wales with a thrilling 3-2 win on Tuesday night.

A delighted Brown said: “That is our biggest win of the season so far.

"They are the best side we have played this campaign and are a very good footballing side.

"We forced them to go long in the second-half and it was a great way to bounce back after our FA Trophy loss.”

On Tuesday night, the home side started lively and took the lead after three minutes as Nana Owusu tapped in at the back post.

The visitors then levelled as Ryan Prosser slammed the ball home in the middle of the half.

Then just before the break, the Dragons scored the goal of the game from Romone Rose.

The home side increased their lead on 51 minutes from Matt Partridge, before Kayne McLaggon set up a thrilling finale. The home players then defended to a man to make sure of the 3-2 win.

The victory was the Dragons fifth straight home success, which has also seen them score 16 goals in some very entertaining games at the Ark Cancer Charity Stadium.

Lowly St Ives will be the the next side to try and take something from their lair on Saturday (3pm) in another league encounter.

Brown is hoping to have striker Aaron Jarvis back in the squad for the game and is taking nothing for granted and said: “They are a decent side. I just want us to perform as well as did against Merthyr.”
