AFTER three games without a goal, Basingstoke Town will be hoping to carry on the free flowing form they showed on Tuesday night with a 5-1 victory against Farnborough in the Hampshire Senior Cup.

As the Dragons welcome Cambridge to the Ark Cancer Centre Charity Stadium on Saturday, Town Boss Terry Brown is hoping now the goals will come thick and fast.

“The lads need to get back to playing without fear and playing our game,” Brown told The Gazette

“We did really well in pre-season but when the season kicks-in nerves start to show. Now we have had a strong showing in the Hampshire Senior Cup I hope we can carry that momentum through to the league.”

Brown made six changes for the game against Farnborough after the 1-0 defeat to Hungerford Town on Saturday in the FA Cup.

With a focus on youth, the Dragons were once again without the experienced Matt Partridge and skipper David Ray who pick-up a knock during the FA Cup clash.

However, the young guns made light work of their Southern League Division One Central opponents with goals from Richie Whittingham, Aaron Jarvis, Charlie Kennedy and a brace for Romone Rose.

“It was great for Romone Rose to get his first goals for us, the second of which was a 30-yard beauty,” added Brown.

“To come off the bench and make an impact is always great and it shows that we have a good enough squad that we change the system around a bit.”

With the potential of playing more than 60 games this season, Brown says versatility in his squad is key and is looking to ring the changes once again when they host Cambridge.

He added: “We have had to play players in different positions just to try things out and make the most of the small squad we have.

“We will hopefully have Dave back for the weekend, but we will have to see how he is doing nearer the time.

“Our aim is to stick to our system, play our game and hopefully the results will follow suit.”
