BASINGSTOKE Hockey Ladies signed off their pre-season with a 5-0 home win against Guildford at Down Grange last weekend.

Two goals from Annalise Whitehead gave Basingstoke the early advantage and Mel Trevaskis crossed for Fi Parker to make it 3-0, but it needed a scrambled save off the line by Gemma Carswell to ensure it stayed that way to half time.

Captain Catriona Bausor made it 4-0 from the spot before Carswell saved a penalty flick at the other end.

After good work on the left, it was Bausor who added the fifth, smashing the ball into the far corner.

The ladies travel to Spencer to open their Division Two campaign on Saturday.

In the other ladies games, the third and fourth teams both won 4-1, while the fifth team, after supplying three players to the opposition, played out a 3-3 draw.

The third, fourth, and fifth teams start their league campaigns next week, while the second team have a friendly away.

The boys under-14s travel to Aldershot and Farnham on Sunday in Wessex Division Two.

The men’s first and second teams travelled to Ashford on Saturday and both came back with 5-1 wins, while on Sunday, the men beat near neighbours Andover 3-1.

The league programmes for the men commence on October 1.
