BASINGSTOKE Kickboxing Organisation (BKO) enjoyed a fist full of medals winning two golds, silver silvers and two bronzes at the UK Open Championships in Windsor.

The first BKO fighter in action was 10-year-old George Hine, aged 10, who has only been a member of BKO for a short time.

Fighting in the novice boys section, he got through to the final and narrowly lost by one point.

Having fought through the rounds, Liz Ferioli, who also fights for the Great Britain team, landed three clear sidekicks on her opponent in the final and the judges did not score any of them meaning that Ferioli had to settle for second place.

Following her points fighting, she returned to the mat, this time for light contact continuous and again picked up a silver medal.

George Peploe flew through the rounds and won his final with 10 clear points.

Neil Jepson, having recently passed his blue belt grading, was drawn against world champion Alex Kennedy and put up a good fight, but lost.

Vinnie Turner fought in the intermediate section coming fourth and then earned a silver medal in the veterans section.

Michelle Rees, fighting in the intermediate sections, took to the mat for her first light contact continuous tournament fight in over a year, getting through to the final and winning silver.

Some BKO members from France also took part in Windsor. Anais Vandomme won a silver and bronze. Killian Vandomme took first place and the trophy in his section.

BKO’s novice men points fighters. Justin Haigh and Nick Woodley are very new to kickboxing and tournaments and being yellow belts (2nd grade) were meant to be fighting in the novice section.

Unfortunately, with limited fighters in that section, they were moved up to the intermediate/advanced section.

In the end Haigh narrowly lost out to Woodley in the battle for the bronze.

The club’s next tournament is tomorrow at Winchester.
