BASINGSTOKE Town's four game unbeaten run came to an end as they lost 3-1 at home to Frome Town.

Back-to-back wins for the Dragons had seen them climb up to 13th in the table, but this loss saw then slip back to 17th, while Frome moved up the fifth.

The home side made one change to the side which beat Cinderford 3-2 on Saturday, as striker Romone Rose was given his first start in place of George Hallahan.

Frome were quickly out of the blocks moving the ball around the park with some slick passing.

It took then just four minutes to open the scoring, as George Miller shot from the edge of the area took a big deflection and went under the home goalie.

The visitors continued to dominate the opening 15 minutes, at which point the home side returned to a 4-4-2 formation as it was clear the diamond midfield was not working.

The impressive Sam Deadfield then tested the Somerset side's stopper Darren Chitty with a great strike, which he could only push around the post.

Then a minute later, Joe Gater slide in at the back post from Deadfield's free-kick, but Chitty did well to keep it out.

As the half came to an end the home side are more lively and a lovely move saw George Bennett feed Michael Atkinson, but from a good position he was only able to find the side netting.

Soon after, Deadfield played what looked like the perfect ball to Redford, but he harshly flagged off side which did not go down well with the home fans.

In the final minute of the half, the hard working Rose carved out a chance for Deadfield, but his effort went across the face of goal.

Then just before the interval, Darren Jefferies looked set to double the advantage as his shot beat Alex Tokarczyk, but skipper Matt Partridge cleared off the line.

Disaster struck just five minutes into the second half, as Gater's back header to Tokarczyk was intercepted by Kirby who slotted into the empty net.

Despite going 2-0 down the home side keep going and Rose forced a save and then Deadfield hit the side netting from sub Tamille Roache's cross.

Twice more the ball flashes across the face of the Frome goal, without a home player able to get a touch on it.

The Somerset side then made sure of the points as Sam Teale headed in at the back post from a corner.

Now three goals down the home side still tried to score and sub Richie Whittingham forced a good save and Robert Atkinson headed over from a Deadfield corner.

The home side finally got their reward on 79 minutes as sub Hallahan's shot is pushed away and Deadfield scored the rebound.

Then three minutes later, Rose looked set to net a second as he rounded the goalkeeper, but the angle was too tight and his shot hit the side netting.

The Dragons continue to try and add a second goal, but it finished 3-1 to Frome.

After the game manager Terry Brown said: "We are conceding too many goals at the moment I think we are really missing Razor (Dave Ray) back there. We certainly created enough chances to win the game."
