BASINGSTOKE and North Hants were unable to avenge a defeat earlier in the season against Bournemouth, as they lost this time at May’s Bounty in the Southern League Division One.

Once again, the contest proved to be a low scoring one as the visitors were all out for 177, the Bountymen then just made 126.

Bournemouth skipper Martin Miller won the toss and decided to bat, but Martyn James (2-29) and Mitch Stokes (2-15) kept things tight early on as the visitors were reduced to 58-4.

It was left to Ryan Wiltshire (40) and Chris Bolon (28) to repair some of the early damage, as they moved the score into three figures.

Skipper Miller (19) and Wiltshire then put on what turned out to be the match winning partnership as they added 60 for the sixth wicket.

However, Ryan Connor (4-34) put the skids under the innings as they slumped from 160-5 to 177 all out.

Andrew Woodward (2-25) struck early dismissing Craig Williamson and Richard Vinn to reduce the home side to 15-2.

Opener Dan Belcher (23) and top scorer Will Phillips (24) tried to get the Bountymen back on track, but the home side were soon 68-6 with Ben Julin and Stokes also out cheaply.

Joe Oates (13) and Martyn James (16) with the only six of the innings, moved the score to 100-8 Matt Thankachan (13) then added some late runs, but it was all in vain as the home side were all out for 126.

The Bountymen wrap up their season with a local derby at Hook and Newnham Basics next weekend.

Basingstoke’s second team also suffered defeat in their Division Three contest at Hursley Park.

The Bountymen decided to bat and made a solid start thanks to openers Max Harsham (40) and Chris Froud (37).

The pair put on 79 for the first wicket and then captain Chris Chandler ( 25) helped the score into three figures.

Unfortunately, after this Callum Coombs (20) and Harry Smith (10) were the only players to make it into double figures as Basingstoke were all out for 190.

The home side produced a really solid batting display as their top six all chipped in, which helped them reach their target with three overs to spare and with just four wickets down.

Basingstoke finish their Division Three campaign at home to champions Langley Manor next weekend.
