TADLEY Calleva kick-off their Wessex League Division One campaign tomorrow evening with a trip to Alton Town.

Tadley manager Danny Dolan is looking forward to the campaign as his side should once again be amongst the pacesetters.

They have lost James Tennant to Thatcham, but has signed on dual forms, while Grant Powell has joined former Whitchurch boss Jim Macey at Amesbury in the Premier Division.

On the plus side a link-up between Tadley and National League South outfit Hungerford has seen left back Callum Thomas arrive at Barlow’s Park.

Other new faces are defender Dan Walker, Glenn Gabriel and Stefan Akmel, along with former Overton goalie Sean O’Brien.

Danny Vickers has also returned to the team from Australia to add some more steel to the centre of midfield.

Having trained and played their pre-season game on Astro turf, Dolan feels his side will be ready to play on Alton’s artificial surface.

Dolan said: “Alton look set to be a good side, so it will be a tough start for us. The league is looking stronger than last year and really hope we can get off to a good start.

“It it a bigger league with 21 teams and will also mean a lot more travelling. I think it is going to be very competitive and really hope we can finish in the top three.”

Tadley first home league game is on Saturday August 13 against Hythe and Dibden.

The week before, Tadley are in FA Cup action with a tough trip to Highworth Town.

l WHITCHURCH open their Wessex League Premier Division campaign with a home game with a visit from newly promoted Amesbury to Longmeadow on Wednesday night.
