HARTLEY Wintney skipper Danny Plume is looking for his side to finish the first half of their season on a winning note, when they travel to Sparsholt.

After a slow start to the season, in recent weeks the village side have turned things around with two victories, before Saturday’s game was wiped out due to heavy rain.

Plume said: “With everyone beating everyone we are very much still in the hunt for promotion.

"A victory this weekend will see us move up into the pack with half the season left.”

Sparsholt currently occupy the second promotion spot having won four of their six games.

Hartley will have all-rounder Patrick Joseph and wicket keeper Richard Hill back for the clash and the mood in the camp is really good at the moment.

Plume said: “After two wins there is a buzz around the team and we really feel we can beat anyone.

"We know it is going to be tough at Sparsholt, but I want us to keep winning.”

Saturday’s game on the village green was abandoned after a heavy downpour ended their Southern League Division Three clash with visiting Tichborne Park early.

It left a lot of the pitch waterlogged and too dangerous to continue.

At this point the visitors had reached 54-2 after just 5.4 overs.

Opener Justin Reid did most of the damage for Tichborne as he top scored with 38 from 23 balls, which included six fours, two from no balls bowled by Chris Saville (1-31).

The Hartley bowler gained revenge as he had Reid trapped leg before, in his 2.4 overs spell.

At the other end, Ben Hyde on his debut for the village side returned 1-23 and took the other wicket as he caught and bowled George Ayling.

Plume said: “It was disappointing for the game to end this way. They had made a good start, but if we had taken another couple of wickets we would have been back in the game.”
