BASINGSTOKE and North Hants second team maintained their unbeaten start to their Southern League Division Three campaign with a three wicket win over visiting Havant II.

Home skipper Chris Chandler won the toss and elected to field and the visitors got off to an excellent start thanks to an opening stand of 181 between Andrew Galliers (123) and Simon Loat (49).

Steve Bucksey was the Bountymen’s star bowler with 5-22 and he removed both openers.

As Havant looked to score quick runs they suffered four run outs thanks to Chandler, Richard Vinn, Scott McGaughrin and Lee Nurse and were all out for 236.

The home side suffered the early loss of Chris Oliver (6), but fellow opener Vinn (41) and Bucksey (49) added 72 for the second wicket.

After the dismissal of Vinn, Bucksey and Callum Coombs (11), the mantle was taken up by Bradley Neal (34) and Dean Nurse as they put on 67 for the fifth wicket.

After this Nurse steered his side home as he finished unbeaten on 65 from 44 balls which included two sixes and eight fours.

The home side won with three overs to spare and this weekend they have an away trip to Fair Oak.
