HOOK and Newnham Basics are still searching for their first win of the season in the Southern League Division One, after rain saw their game against visiting Portsmouth abandoned after 25 overs.
This was just as Rhodes Franklin was starting to get amongst the visiting batsman with two wickets from his two overs.
Hook skipper Matt Love put the visiting side into bat and they made a solid start, as openers Richard Locke (14) and Jack Marston (50) put on 41 for the first wicket.
Locke was then bowled by Shane Brewer, but this saw Inderpal Singh Nandra (54 not out) join Marston, and the pair added 84 for the second wicket to put Portsmouth in a strong position.
However, the introduction of Rhodes put the brakes on the innings, as he bowled Marston and then also trapped Fraser Hay for a duck to leave them 125-3.
The visitors added 10 more runs, thanks to Singh Nandra and Harry Collier, before the rain ended play for the day at the King George V Playing Fields.
Next up for Hook is a trip to OTs and Romsey on Saturday.
