OVERTON Recreation Centre will be the place to be on Sunday afternoon as they are holding a feast of sport of entertainment at its Bridge Street Sports Ground.

This is to celebrate 50 years of looking after its own local sports and activities.

All the activities are free and will include music, dancing football for boys, girls and men walking football, cricket athletics, tennis, table tennis, golf, aerobics, art, photography all supported by a barbecue with drinks.

There is sure to be a big turn out and event organiser Graham Devereux said: “It will be a fantastic day and is free to attend. we want as much participation as we can muster as we know the long term benefits for family life of being involved.”

Chairman Steve Williams said: “Helping our local community to thrive has always been our ambition. We have been managing our own facilities here since 1966.

“What better way to improve your health than by using the 30 acres of green space that we manage directly ourselves.”

Local resident Andy Wake, who is the third generation of a family that has grown up in the area said: “There is an incredible choice of sports and activities for everyone to enjoy all year round. There’s even a local lottery which helps fund everything.”

Local residents are certainly committed to improving their well-being as more than 2,000 adults and children participate in the variety of sports and activities available to them consistently every month.
