ROB Collard will be hoping to go one place better than last year and claim his first win at his home track of Thruxton, when the British Touring Car Championships makes its annual visit to Hampshire this weekend.

Last season, Collard led race two at the fastest circuit on the calendar, before having to settle for second place behind Jason Plato.

The Hook driver is currently in fine form in his West Surrey Racing BMW having won at the last meeting at Donington and is currently fourth in the drivers’ standings, just 14 points behind leader Matt Neal with reigning champion Gordon Shedden in second.

Collard said: “I always enjoy racing at Thruxton. We have a car which is going really well at the moment, so I hope I can do well again. I always get such good support there so it would be great to win at my home venue and break my duck there.

“If not I will settle for a good points haul to keep me in touch with the leaders of the championships.”

Collard’s youngest son Jordon Collard will also be in action at Thruxton over the weekend in the Ginetta Juniors.

His oldest son Ricky Collard was in action last weekend and secured his maiden victory in the British Formula Three Championships at Rockingham.

The teenager won the final race at the Northamptonshire circuit, as he flew off the line from third place to take the lead at the first corner, which he was never to surrender.

His victory was his second podium of the day, having finished second in the first race and he now leads the championship in his rookie season by 22 points.

All the races on Sunday at Thruxton will be shown live on ITV4 from 11am.
