BASINGSTOKE Town will look to end their season on a high as they travel to mid table Chelmsford City on Saturday.

The Dragons know that a win will not see them move off the bottom of the National League South table, but manager Terry Brown wants his side to end their campaign on a positive note and build on last weekend’s win over Truro.

Brown is also keen for his side to make it three clean sheets on the trot and he said: “We have defended really well in the last two games and I hope we can keep this going in the final game. We are only playing for pride, but it would be great to finish with a win.

“I know it is not going to be easy, as it is never is when you go to Chelmsford and of course they will want to win their last game as well.”

Dan Lincoln will return between the sticks as Brown continues to rotate his goalkeepers.

Basingstoke Academy George Bennett will make his first Basingstoke start in the game and fellow Academy players George Hallahan and Aaron Jarvis will also again be involved, with one of them making the start and other being on the subs bench.

Brown added: “I think all three youngster did really well against Truro, Aaron and George (Hallahan) combined for the first goal and then George (Bennett) has set up the second one.

"I was really pleased the way the supporters encouraged the youngsters which was nice to see.”

Three players who will not be involved in the trip to Essex to face Chelmsford, having being released this week by the club are striker Lloyd Macklin, Shaun MacAuley and Glen Southam.

Brown said: “We wish all three of them the best and thank them for their time at Basingstoke.”

With the team going full time next season and having much younger squad most of the players the game at Chelmsford will be their last in a Town shirt, but not all them.

Brown said: “I am speaking to four current first team players about forming the spine of the new team, but of course it is a big decision for them to commit to training full time and I understand they need time to make sure it is right for them.”

"I really hope we can bring some of this year's squad back for next season."

He added: I really want to build a team which does not gift goals to anyone."
