BASINGSTOKE Gymnastic Club squad gymnasts represented their club recently at regional events, with two competing for qualification towards the British Championships.

Most recently at the NDP Tumbling Southern Regional prelims, four gymnasts successfully qualified for the semi-finals at Birmingham in May.

Darcie George won the National Three 11/12 yrs category, Carson Nichols, qualified in the 13 plus category and came away with a gold medal.

Harrison Walker, and Anthony Alemany qualified in their category and both came away with a silver medals.

In the TeamGym category, the Junior girls team performed fantastically at this year’s Southern Regional qualifiers at Bracknell, to book their place at the British Championships at Liverpool in July.

Emily Bomphrey, currently a member of the Zonal selection process, is trialling and working hard to earn a place in the GB team for the European Championships in September.

Finally, the Aerobic Gymnastic Squad attended their first competition of 2016 down in Gosport.

This saw 32 routines competing across regional, national and international level, and this for many gymnasts was their first competitions.

It was a long day, but very successful one bringing back one gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals. Zanna Woods one of the club coaches received a Dedication to Sport award for all her commitment to the Great Britain squad as a gymnast and her commitment as a coach to Basingstoke Gymnastic Club.
