THIS season's edition of the Peter Raynbird Cup got under way on Saturday, with AFC Aldermaston A and Hook Reserves playing out an 11-goal thriller in their preliminary round tie.

Aldermaston took an early lead when Hook's Charlie Page saw his back-pass evade the goalkeeper and end up in the back of the net.

Dan Nocella then kept out Mark Beagley's penalty to ensure Aldermaston remained ahead, with Ashley Jones doubling their lead on 31 minutes.

Jack McKee reduced the arrears just before half-time, converting Stuart Charles' cross, but goals from Andy Hynes and Bradley Nicholson had Aldermaston 4-1 ahead early in the second half.

Ryan Williams made it 4-2 after 59 minutes, but Vince Kennedy restored the three-goal cushion a minute later.

Hook were awarded a penalty in the following minute, but Nocella again denied the hosts from the spot, saving McKee's effort.

Hynes made it 6-2 soon after, but Hook hit back in the closing stages, with Charles, Beagley and McKee all netting to set up an exciting four minutes, but Aldermaston held out to set up a trip to Hampshire Irons in the first round.

Winklebury Wizards will face Basingstoke Labour Club in round one after winning 4-1 away at Overton United.

Kyle Buckland put Overton ahead from the penalty spot after 10 minutes and the same player was inches away from doubling the lead two minutes later, his lob hitting the crossbar.

Winklebury pulled level in the 61st minute through former Overton man Scotty Winterbourne, while Connor Stratton converted Alex Stevens' pass to put the Wizards ahead.

Winterbourne made it 3-1 when Overton failed to clear a corner and went on to complete his hat-trick from Jack Arthur's pass in the final minute.

Tron beat Herriard Sports 2-0 to secure their place in the main draw, but it took them until the 75th minute to go ahead, Ben Nicholls finishing off a good move involving Richard McCoubrie and Joe Harris.

Tron made sure it would be them facing AFC Berg in the next round three minutes later, Jamie Ballantyne finishing off another neat move, with Harris and Lorne Howard both involved.

Bounty United were too strong for TDI Group, winning 7-1 to set up a first-round tie against Hook.

Matt Love scored twice in the early stages to put Bounty in control, with Mitchell Stokes adding a third from the penalty spot.

Love completed his hat-trick with a neat lob, while Stokes got his second to make it 5-0 at half-time.

TDI pulled a goal back through Josh Bushell, but further strikes from Andy Darmody and Arkadiusz Besztzrdal completed the rout.

Basingstoke Athletic Reserves were unable to raise a team for their tie against Basingstoke United, so their opponents will host Tadley Calleva A in the next round.
