AFTER one season back in Southern League Division One, Hartley Wintney were relegated after failing to win their final game of the season at Andover.

With Calmore Sports losing at Basingstoke and Totton’s game against Hook abandoned, Hartley were left knowing that a victory was all they needed to stay up.

However, they lost by 98 runs, being bowled out for 125 chasing 223-8

Skipper Scott Baldwin was left a disappointed man and said: “We were just not good enough on the day. We missed a couple of catches and bowled a bit loosely. We should have kept them to 170.

“We talked before the game and felt 225 was defendable and they got 223. Aaron Wivell batted well, but no one stuck around with him.”

The season has been a tough one for the village side, who won just four games after coming up against top-six sides in five of their opening six games.

Reflecting on the season, Baldwin said: “I think the club are going to review the season and see where we go from here. We lost a few close games and a couple more wins would have easily seen us finish in mid-table, but it was not to be so we have to re-group and try for promotion again.”

Mark Teale was Hartley’s top wicket taker for the season with 22, one ahead of Chris Jolley.
