TADLEY Calleva caused an upset in the Hampshire Senior Cup on Tuesday night, beating Hartley Wintney on penalties to set up a money-spinning tie against Aldershot Town.

Hartley rested several players and while hosts Tadley were without first-choice strikers Ryan Stephens and Brett Denham, it was they who took the lead on 25 minutes, James Tennant taking advantage of a slip at the back to fire home.

Tennant could have doubled the lead just before the break, but he was unable to find the target.

Both sides created chances in the second half but it was Hartley who found the net, Toby Jannaway heading home a corner at the far post with 10 minutes remaining.

With no further scoring inside 90 minutes, the game was decided on a penalty shoot-out.

Adam Everiss lifted Hartley's second kick over the crossbar to give Tadley an early advantage, but Andrew Charsley saw his kick saved and the scores were level at 4-4 after five penalties.

Both sides converted their next four kicks, but Tadley goalkeeper Tom Hindmarsh saved Hartley's 10th penalty and right-back Jason Kingston stepped up to win the game for the hosts.

As a result, Tadley, who knocked holders Basingstoke Town out of last year's competition, will host National League outfit Aldershot in the second round later this month.

Manager Danny Dolan said: "It was a good win and we are looking forward to the next round.

"The club is delighted to get a tie like this and hopefully we will have a big crowd for the game."
