READING have signed England under-21 goalkeeper Jonathan Bond from Watford for an undisclosed fee.

The goalie now 22, has signed a three-year contract for the Royals.

He was a member of Gareth Southgate's England squad at this summer's European Championships in the Czech Republic.

Reading manager Steve Clarke said: "It is great to secure the signature of one of English football's brightest young goalkeepers."

"Jonathan needs a new challenge and the opportunity to establish himself as first-choice goalkeeper."

He will be working with Reading's new goalkeeping coach Dave Beasant.

Bond joins from newly promoted Watford, having been understudy to Heurelho Gomes during the Hornets' promotion from the Championship last season.

He has been capped five times by England at under-21 level and joins up with the squad for their pre-season tour of Thailand.
