MARK (Red) Funnel is fast becoming a Watmore Farm Fishery expert, having won his last three matches on the testing venue.

Last Sunday, in the Kennet Ospreys’ match, the slow sinking waggler adept ran out an easy winner with 112lb 4oz of carp.

Second place went to, wait for it, club chairman Maurice Parsons, who also fished the slow sinking waggler for 57lb 12oz of carp.

Simon Couling came next with 46lb 12oz of carp, followed by “Bato Baits” Bartosz Recki with 37lb 2oz.

Twenty participated and one did not weigh.

Adventure AS travelled to the Cotswold Water Park’s Ridgeway Lake last Sunday, where Sean Shiles took the honours with 86lb 8oz of carp on pole and corn.

Phil Beales employed the same method to net 67lb 12oz of carp. Mark Blackmon’s 56lb 12oz was again a pole and corn affair, while Mick Fordham utilised pole and meat for his 47lb 14oz.

Twenty fished at an interesting venue and caught.

Kennet Ospreys’ Steve Hunt has qualified for the Garbolino Club Angler of the Year Final, to be fished at Barston Lakes, near Solihull in the West Midlands, where 45 of the top club anglers in the country will be taking part. Let’s hope for a good draw for our man.

Basingstoke Railway Piscatorials took themselves to Cove Pit on Sunday, and it was Staceys supremo Keith Brown who topped out with 107lb 12oz of carp on pole, meat and maggot close in.

Colin Ariss utilised pole and meat fished long for his 79lb 2oz of carp. Lyn Matthews caught 76lb 8oz of carp for third place, while Jack Hearn netted 66lb 8oz to make up the frame.

Seventeen fished and caught.

Camrose AC fished at Cheriton Farm last Sunday, where top two Terry Bowles employed his favourite method (what else?) with meat as bait he won the match with 86lb 4oz of carp.

Ralph Sneddon made second place with 62lb 8oz of carp on pole and paste. Paul Bassinder’s even 57lb was good enough for third spot, with Chris Hopgood on 50lb.

Fourteen fished and caught.

I took ‘er indoors to the local tackle shop last week, where co-proprietor Tomasz Wojcik offered her a home-made biscuit, which she accepted.

On the way home, she told me how nice the biscuit was, what a good cook Tomasz was, and what a lousy cook I was.

I didn’t like to tell her that I am a lousy cook on purpose, or that Tomasz didn’t cook the biscuits, one of his customers did.

Catch me next week.
