TOM Bird's excellent form for Basingstoke Town last season has resulted in the left-back being named in the Vanarama Conference South All Star Team.

The 26-year-old started 50 games for the Dragons last season, finding the back of the net four times as Town reached the play-offs.

Having signed for his hometown club last summer, Bird soon became an integral member of the team, with his forays forward from left-back a key part of Basingstoke's plan of attack. He has already signed for a second season at the Camrose.

The All Star Team was selected via a poll of Conference South managers and reacting to the news on Twitter, Bird wrote: "Delighted to be voted for Team of the Year."

Basingstoke manager Jason Bristow said: "This is great for Tom and very well deserved. It’s fantastic to see Tom flying the flag for Basingstoke Town."

The All Star Team was unveiled at the National League Awards, which took place at Celtic Manor last weekend.

The club picked up a gong, winning the Vanarama Conference South Respect Campaign Award for the second year running.

The award is given to the club most seen to embrace the FA Respect Campaign and which conducts itself most in keeping with the campaign both at home and away.

Chairman Rafi Razzak said: “To be presented with the award for the second year running is fantastic for the club.

"We are highly thought of and conduct ourselves in the right way all the way through the club. It’s an award we should all take pride in.”
