BASINGSTOKE golfer Stuart Archibald did not get the start he was looking for in his opening EuroPro Tour event at Celtic Manor Resort, as he missed the cut by one shot.

The 30-year-old from Worting was unable to make use of good weather in the opening round of the World Snooker Open and his fate was sealed when persistent rain caused the second day to be abandoned.

This meant the top 50 players moved onto play the final two rounds of the tournament on the final day.

Archibald shot a one over par 70 on the first day, where a bogey on the final hole of the Welsh course proved to be vital.

It was mixed round from start to finish for him at Celtic Manor, as he dropped his first shot on the second hole, but then recovered with birdies at holes five and six.

The 30-year-old then dropped further shots at both seven and eight, before a birdie at nine left him on par having shot 35 at the turn.

After a uneventful few holes another birdie was bagged at 13 to move it to one under, but a bogey at 14 and then 18 saw him finish on 70 which sealed his fate.

The tournament was won by Gary King by one shot, as he followed up an opening round of 64 with two rounds of 68 on the final day to finish on 198 (-9).

Archibald will now hope for better luck at the next event of EuroPro Tour which The Buildbase Open at Frilford Heath in Oxfordshire which started today.
