THE OPENING game of this season’s Guy Jewell Cup was brought to a premature end by wet weather.

The game saw Old Basing take on Rotherwick ITW, but rain resulted in play being suspended early in the second innings. The game will now but played on Thursday May 21.

Old Basing batted first and made 131-5 from the 16 overs their innings was reduced to.

Rotherwick’s reply reached 8-0 after 22 balls, but rain then forced the players back to the pavilion.

The dates for the rest of the first round games have now been decided, with the fixtures as follows:

Ramsdell v East Woodhay (Monday May 18)

Andover v Chineham Barbarians (Tuesday May 19)

Oakley v Chawton (Tuesday May 26)

Ropley v Odiham and Greywell (Monday June 1)

RNA Sports v Herriard (Thursday June 4)

Overton v Ashford Hill (Monday June 8)

Basingstoke Hockey v St Mary’s (Thursday June 11)

Stratfield Turgis v Rotherfield Park (Monday June 15).

Five teams have received byes into the second round of the competition. They are holders Yateley, Basingstoke and North Hants, Hook and Newnham Basics A, Hartley Wintney and Eversley.
