AFTER enjoying a winning double at the opening meeting of the British Touring Car Championship father and son Rob and Ricky Collard will be looking for more success in the second round at Donington on Sunday.

Hook’s Rob Collard won the opening race of the first round of the BTCC at Brands Hatch, before tyre wear and weight saw him suffer in race two. In race three, he found himself beached in the gravel trap after being knocked off the track.

Meanwhile, son Ricky also enjoyed success in the MSA Formula Championship as he won the second race to go with sixth places in his first and last outings on the Kent circuit.

Both will be hoping for more success at the Derbyshire track this weekend.

Last year, Rob Collard finished fourth and seventh when he travelled north, but he is expecting a tough meeting for his West Surrey Racing BMW.

Collard said: “The BMW was really good at Brands Hatch and all of the team’s drivers enjoyed good race results. We will have to wait and see what happens at Doning-ton, but I hope I can qualify as well as I did at Brands, when I was fifth.

“I think Donington is going to be tough for the BMW as we do not have the straight line speed, so it is going to be hard to hold back the VW and Mercedes on the long straights of the circuit.”

His son, Ricky, will also be keen to build on his opening meeting success, but he only finished one of his three outings last time at Donington, coming in ninth, so will be hoping for much better luck this time around.

Father Rob feels the youngster will enjoy Donington and said: “Ricky is driving well and the Arden team have given him a good car, so I see no reason why he cannot do well this weekend.”
