JUNIOR Loddon Vale bowler Nicole Rogers has enjoyed a great few weeks as the indoor bowls season comes to a close.

Having reached the quarter-finals of the English under-25’s Ladies Championship at her first attempt, where she lost to last year’s Ladies World Champion Kathrine Rednall, the 16-year-old was rewarded with a call-up to the England under-18 trials, which will be held in Rugby at the end of the month.

The successful bowlers will be invited to play in the Home Internationals, hosted in Scotland at the beginning of October.

The teenager then became the youngest ever winner of the Hampshire Ladies championship, beating three-time champion and current holder Liz Russell on her own green at Atherley IBC, Sout-hampton.

After a slow start, Rogers became accustomed to the pace of the green on her way to a 21-12 victory.

This is a great achievement not only for Rogers, but for her family as Nicole’s father, Duncan, who is also a member of Loddon Vale, is the reigning Hampshire Men’s champion.

However, the gloves will be off shortly as the two clash in the Open Singles final at Loddon Vale later this month.
