BBC Radio 1 DJs Bobby Friction and Nihal come north of the border to play an exclusive set this Saturday at the Mix Element.

The night will also feature Glasgow DJs and producers, Bobby B & Jay Jagpal alongside the new upcoming Scottish DJs, Gully & Vinny.

A night bringing Asian and urban vibes to create the Mix Element, the event is backed by Glasgow's Anti Racial Alliance to try to bring different communities together.

Haven't heard of Bobby Friction and Nihal? Let me introduce you.

Bobby's Radio 1 show has connected a new generation of Asian listeners around the world into the mainstream, as well as introduced everyone else to the sounds of the British Asian Urban Nation.

He also presents the Official British Asian Album Chart Show on the BBC Asian Network.

Bobby has represented the British Asian sound as a DJ all over the world and has built a reputation as a genre mixing Asian turntabilist from Asia to the US, and from the Middle East to the whole of Europe.

He was one of the founder members of Ecostani and still works alongside The Infinite Scale, his production partner.

They have also been recording their own original material for the last nine years and they've worked on numerous remixes taking in Electronica to Bhangra, from House to Hip-Hop, through Bollywood, and back again.

Bobby has also recorded tracks with the Mercury Music Award nominated Black Star Liner, starred in the BBC 1 documentary This England and recently fronted the Channel 4 TV show Bollywood Star.

From West London, he is a hugely influential figure on the Asian club scene and a sought-after broadcaster with wide appeal to Asian youth. He won his second Gold Sony award in 2005 for his BBC documentary Vote Friction, on the elections and the BNP in Burnley.

Nihal has been living for the music since he started promoting rap shows in his native Essex while still doing his A Levels. By the time he was about to graduate he was signed to a major label, and since then he has been a music journalist. In the late 90s, he was a Music PR working for artists as diverse as Nitin Sawhney, Judge Jules, Mos Def, Beenieman and Elton John.

As well as DJ-ing at his own monthly clubnight, Bombay Bronx, Nihal has DJ-ed the Isle Of Wight Festival, Glastonbury and the Bestival in the UK, and these two love playing Scotland, so make sure you welcome them at Strathclyde Union this weekend!

One of Scotland's newest labels, Mister Tramp Records, is bringing together some of Scotland's finest musical talent for one of the most original gigs of the year.

Evan Crichton, You Already Know, The State Broadcasters and Afterchristmas will Rock The Boat at The Ferry at Anderston Quay this Saturday along with a host of guest DJs all in aid of Shelter Scotland.

And, as an extra special treat, each act will perform at least three of their favourite cover. As if that wasn't enough, Mister Tramp will also be providing fans with DJ sets from Chris Connick, Duncan Robertson and Dananananaykroyd.

Doors open at 9pm, the bands start at 9.45pm and the DJ sets are from midnight.

Here's a quick summary of what to expect...

YOU ALREADY KNOW: Breath-stealing, spine-chilling, darkly beautiful melodies backed up with the most solid of bass lines.

THE STATE BROADCASTERS: The laid back charm of their heady mix of folk pop and Americana will stop you in your tracks. There's no escaping the exceptional quality and sparkling talent of this irresistibly lovely band.

AFTERCHRISTMAS: This fantastic band won't fail to bring a smile to your face and a tap to your toes; their infectious combination of twisting and winding guitar and keyboard-lead melodies will surprise your ears.

EVAN CRICHTON: There's no mistaking the ethereal yet crystal voice. This boy can sing. Mister Tramp presents Rock The Boat @ The Ferry, Anderston Quay. Saturday, 9pm. £5. Duke's on the decks

LATE last year Adam Dyment beat all comers to win the Diesel U-Music award, an accolade previously won by DJs Yoda and Mylo. Under his alias, Duke Dumont, the 24-year-old, below, conjured a noisy fusion of hip hop and mutant house from his twin laptops.

Since his triumph, the Duke is leading the charge of those inspired by the jerky, productions of Justice and Switch.

With a Missy Elliot bootleg, We Run This doing the rounds and releases due on Tiga's Turbo and Wall Of Sound this year, Duke is keeping it regal.

Check out what he's all about next Saturday at Purple Sneaker, when you can expect ear-drum-bursting beats and funk-drenched basslines.

Mike TV is also on the bill and residents Mehdi, Anima and Jamie Young will also be on hand. Enjoy. Purple Sneaker @ Classic Grand, Saturday March 31. 10pm-3am. £5/6.
