DAVIE WEIR today admitted he should have dealt with the cross that led to the goal that killed off Rangers' Uefa Cup dream.

The veteran defender swiped at the ball from the right and missed it, leaving striker Pierre Webo with the decisive finish. Weir has been rock solid since arriving in January, but was clearly disappointed with his part in the crucial goal.

He said: "I tried to clear it away and I'll need to look at it again and see what happened. I'm not sure what went wrong, but the ball fell nicely for the lad.

"That's a disappointment from my point of view. The first goal was always going to be crucial and we wanted to keep them out. But it was a real struggle for us after that. Over the piece I didn't think there were many chances created, but they had the best of them."

Weir knows Rangers will need to lift their spirits to ensure they get second place in the SPL. Aberdeen are at Ibrox on Saturday, with the gap between them just four points in the race for second place.

"It's a big one for us and we'll get the heads up, that won't be a problem," said the 36-year-old.

"We're out of Europe, but we need to finish second and have eight games left to make sure of it."
