Allan Watson has been named as the new man to oversee NHS 24 for the next four years.
Mr Watson, currently a non-executive director of the service, and chairman of its equality and diversity sub-committee, will take up his new £24,000 part-time post on April 1.
Health Minister Andy Kerr said: "I'm very pleased to announce this appointment. Mr Watson is extremely committed to public service and has demonstrated a clear understanding of the issues being faced by the NHS in Scotland.
"His wealth of experience and knowledge will be extremely valuable. "
Mr Watson, human resources director of a printing and computer supply business, is also a former Glasgow city councillor.
