Portuguese star Luis Figo, 34, has signed for Al Ittihad in Saudi Arabia on a six-month deal worth £5million.

The 34-year-old has been with Inter Milan since 2005. Before then, he played for Sporting Lisbon, Barcelona and Real Madrid.

He retired from international football after the World Cup third-place play-off against Germany in July in which he earned a record 127th cap for Portugal.

Meanwhile, struggling Primera Liga side Real Betis have appointed Luis Fernandez as coach, the 47-year-old former France international replacing Javier Irureta.

Fernandez has coached at Paris St Germain, Espanyol and Athletic Bilbao, among others. While at PSG, he led them to victory in the European Cup-Winners' Cup Final in 1996 against Rapid Vienna.
