HUNDREDS of passengers at Glasgow Airport were caught up in travel chaos today.

Thick fog in London led to the cancellation of more than 130 flights to Heathrow from airports including Glasgow.

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport owners BAA said: "We have had five cancellations today and one flight to Heathrow delayed.

"Another flight due out later this evening bound for Gatwick has also been cancelled."

British Airways and British Midland flights were worst affected, with BA cancelling all its domestic flights to and from Heathrow for the day.

BA flights between Heathrow and mainland Europe were also severely disrupted by the fog, and passengers from Gatwick were also facing lengthy delays.

The chaos came after the dense fog forced air traffic controllers to restrict the number of flights at Heathrow.

More details of the situation are available on ba.com or by telephoning BA on 0800 727 800.

A spokesman for the airline warned: "The fog is likely to remain for the next 48 hours.

"There are likely to be severe delays and possibly cancellations to many BA short-haul and domestic services to and from Heathrow. BA flights to and from Gatwick are also likely to be impacted."

Long-haul services could also be delayed.
