LONDON Irish beat visiting Newcastle Falcons 22-21 in a Premiership thriller at the Madejski Stadium.

The Exiles dominated the opening 40 minutes of the contest as they scored three tries on their way 19-6 advantage.

Halani Aulika, Scott Steele and Andrew Fenby all went over and Shane Geraghty converted two of the scores.

Two penalties from Tom Catterick got the Falcons on the scoreboard and he also kicked another one after the break.

Chris Harris then scored a try from Newcastle, before Irish’s Chris Noakes kicked over a penalty.

Adam Powell’s converted try in the last minute set up a tense finish.

London Irish are in European Challenge Cup quarter-final action a week today when they face a visit from Edinburgh (kick-off 5:45pm).
