BASINGSTOKE Royals reached the final of the Basingstoke A Cup with a 3-0 victory away at Tadley Calleva A on Saturday.

Nick Willcock opened the scoring after 17 minutes, while home goalkeeper Tom Monger did well to keep out Steven Price’s free-kick to prevent Royals extending their lead before the break.

James McIntosh doubled the lead early in the second half and a goal four minutes from time made the game safe. A foul on Willcock gave the visitors a penalty and while Monger pushed James Gilham’s spot-kick onto the crossbar, Gilham followed up to net the rebound.

The win means that Royals will face Hook in next month’s final.

Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division side Sherborne St John are through to the semi-finals of the Peter Raynbird Cup, but they needed extra-time to get the better of Division One TwentyTen.

Ibrahim Waheed wasted a clear chance to put Sherborne ahead after just 20 seconds and TwentyTen took the lead after 20 minutes, Joe Hill finding the net from 30 yards.

Alex Izzo and Waheed both had efforts cleared off the line for Sherborne, but they did equalise on the hour, Izzo finding the net from a corner.

Carl Pearson was unable to make the most of a golden chance to win the game for the Division One outfit, heading wide, and TwentyTen were made to pay in extra-time, Waheed heading home Izzo’s corner to send Sherborne through.
