BASINGSTOKE has 14 nominations for the annual Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sports Awards, which will once again be held at the Southampton Football Club’s home St Mary’s on Wednesday March 25.

The shortlist for the annual awards has been announced with 53 nominees in total being being shortlisted across the 18 categories.

Modern pentathlon’s Bradley Sutton and karate’s Edward van Meerkerk have been nominated for junior sportsman’s award and gymnast Megan Kealy is amongst the finalist in the junior sportswoman category.

Epee fencer Edgar Hornby is in the final three for the senior sportsman crown and martial arts Gavin Downey made the shortlist for the outstanding personal achievement.

In the team category, Shin Gi Tai Martial Academy compete in the junior section, while the senior category the Basingstoke Bison face competition from Basingstoke’s Senior Mixed TeamGym in the final three.

The officials’ award also has two local finalists taekwondo’s Gerry Reilly and athletics’ Steve Snodden.

Karate’s Jessica Muller will hope for success in the junior volunteer category, as will St Martin’s Church of England Primary School in the London 2012 Legacy Award.

There are four finalists in the Service to Sport with half from Basingstoke, as Judo’s Lee Dunce and athletics Ian Byett up for the award.
