JUSTIN Rose finished in a tie for 13th at his second event of the year, the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

The north Hampshire golfer moved up nine places thanks to a final round of 68 (-4), a score that left him on -10 overall, nine shots behind winner Branden Grace of South Africa.

Rose began the European Tour event with a four-under-par round of 68, but fell down the leaderboard on day two after carding 73 (+1).

He got off to a bad start on day three, recording a double-bogey seven at the first hole, but he had recovered to one-under-par at the turn, while an eagle two at the par-four 16th saw him card 69 (-3), leaving the former Robert May’s School pupil 22nd.

A bogey-free final round saw Rose climb the leaderboard on the last day to claim a top-20 finish that keeps him fifth in the world rankings.

The Hook man is not in action this weekend, having decided to give the Dubai Desert Classic a miss.
