RONALD Koeman has revealed he will again be targeting Dutch players in this summer’s transfer window.

Koeman, who welcomes Crystal Palace to St Mary’s this afternoon for an FA Cup fourth round tie, has been hugely successful in the transfer market during his time at Saints.

All of his signings have played a significant part in the club’s superb season.

His latest acquisition, Eljero Elia, has been another success with strong Dutch connections.

Elia started his career with ADO Den Haag and FC Twente before leaving the Netherlands in 2009 to sign for Hamburg.

Koeman has confirmed he could make summer moves for more young stars from the Netherlands as he feels that is an untapped market.

“I have (eyes on more Dutch players). Not now for the winter break but for next season, of course,” he said.

“It’s one of the philosophies of the club to work with young players and there are enough good young ones in Holland.

“Normally they speak very fast the language, Dutch people are involved to adapt in a fast way to the country and to all the things in the Premier League.

“You have to give them the chance. I know the players and that sometimes makes the difference.

“You are more sure about the players you like to have in your team.”

He added: “There is enough talent in Holland.

“We know that the Dutch league is not the best league in Europe but young players can develop themselves to play every weekend and that is what young players need.

“There is not the same pressure for football players, for young players, than in the Premier League.

“We have a fantastic school in Holland about young players, but sometimes that player is not at the moment good enough because he needs more experience, or to play more, or too young.

“Some young players I think go too fast outside of Holland, but that’s the business.

“We have enough talent in Holland and it’s important they know how I like to play with the team. That makes it easier for myself and the players as well, and that is in the case of Elia.

“If you have that kind of football player you have to put him in the best position.

“Then he needs confidence, and to play, and to get that rhythm that he missed.”
