BASINGSTOKE Hockey Club’s ladies won 3-0 away to Fareham to recapture their early season winning form.

The home side started well, testing the Fareham defence with penetrating runs from Rose Evill.

Catriona Bausor opened the scoring when she converted a Lisa Scarborough short corner.

Shortly afterwards, Fi Parker doubled the lead with a smartly-finished slap shot from Bausor’s pass.

After this, the Basing-stoke defence was tested but stood firm, seeing off Fareham’s short corners with confidence.

In the second half, the home side continued to dominate and Parker scored her second of the game to complete a 3-0 victory.

The men’s winning streak came to an abrupt end, when they lost 1-0 at home to Epsom. Basingstoke controlled the first half, so much so that goalkeeper Adam Smith did not touch the ball.

However, an excellent performance from the Epsom goalkeeper, and a lack of clinical finishing from the Basingstoke forwards meant the teams went in 0-0 at half-time.

After the break, Basingstoke again started the brighter, forcing another good save from the Epsom goalie.

The visitors hit back and Adam Smith produced a fantastic glove save from a penalty-corner and follow-up shot.

However, Epsom’s pressure told and they scored the winner as they slammed home another penalty-corner.

The home side looked for an equaliser and one last final save just before the final whistle denied them.

It was a disappointing loss, but they will look back on a successful first half of the season.

They sit fourth in Hants/Surrey Division One, a fine achievement considering that this is their first season at this level after last year’s promotion.

The hockey teams now take a break for Christmas and are in back in action on Saturday, January 10, when the ladies will host league leaders Surbiton.
