WINKLEBURY Wizards sprung a surprise in the Peter Raynbird Cup, beating Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division side Bramley United 3-2 at Brighton Hill.
Division Two Wizards went into the game having lost their last three and they got off to a bad start as Stuart Leddy gave Bramley an early lead.
Hugo Carlos levelled for the hosts, but Leddy’s second restored Bramley’s lead just before half-time.
However, the second half belonged to the home side. Scotty Large and Dean Scott combined to make it 2-2 not long after the break and Josh Harper’s 52nd-minute own-goal proved to be the winner, with Carl Adams also hitting the crossbar for the lower league outfit.
Winklebury’s prize is a game against Hook in round three after they beat Overton United A 4-3.
Pete Silvester’s deflected shot had Hook ahead but Silvani Thomas levelled for Overton before half-time. Andy Parker put Hook back in front on the hour, but Nathan Bennis made it 2-2 soon after.
Goals from Silvester and Tom Davies had Hook in control and while Bennis’ second of the game set up a tense finale, Hook were able to hold on.
